Yttriated. Unless you’re a seasoned welder there’s a really good chance this is the first time you’ve read that word. Looking over the decidedly short list of uses for yttrium we find a bit of this metal is used in a very particular application. It turns out that when a welder is presented with a task that calls for twenty different restrictions he or she may, as a last resort, reach way down in the toolbox for some yttriated tungsten rods. These marvels of engineering make it possible to join especially finicky steel plates. And what role yttrium plays in this whole affair is beyond my capabilities to describe. But hey, it’s in there!
