Product Overview

This here is probably the periodic table's number one candidate for the element least likely to be pronounced correctly. It is named after 19th century's W. Röntgen, the physicist who discovered X-rays and who lent his name to a now-unused measure of radiation.

The synthetic element was made in a lab in Darmstadt, Germany in 1994 by a team that is credited with a number of other transuranic discoveries. They were awarded recognition for their efforts after shooting nickel atoms at a bismuth target. Looking at their charts and monitors they saw evidence of a single atom that promptly broke apart. And they named it something that sounds like "rent-gun-yum."
