Like the other metals in the rare earths group, dysprosium is usually separated from its kin via time consuming processes that drive up the cost of getting the isolated element. Industrially-sourced dysprosium normally comes in thick plates that are then broken up into smaller pieces. The highest grade of purification however will be fibrous-looking pieces that form as crystals precipitated out of solution - and most would agree this also happens to be the most beautiful version as well.
Encased in this gorgeous acrylic presentation piece is about an ounce of this exotic metal. 2x2x2” Lucite hand cast in the USA which will never yellow or haze.
