Whenever you see the word "galvanized" in relation to anything metal that's zinc they're talking about. Galvanizing (coating in zinc) is done to give an oxidation-prone metal a little more resistance to the elements. Which is ironic because zinc is a rather fragile metal in said elements. Pure zinc is a dazzling metal with a very faint blue-green hue. That beautiful luster slowly dulls in air until it's all gone and the zinc has turned a dirty looking gray.
