Silicon is one of the most common elements found on earth. Sand, for one, is nothing but rusted silicon. You can't find it in its elemental form in nature because at the heated temperatures found in the primordial earth all of it oxidized or bound to other elements. Yet, when it is purified it is fairly inert and will stay that way even in moist, salty air.

Our silicon comes from the large rods, or boules, that get sliced up into wafers to be etched for microchips. At 99.9999999% pure it is the purest grade of any element that is commercially available. These chips are a gorgeous, reflective dark blue-gray and we're sure you'll love your little sample!
