This rare earth metal has found very few commercial uses other than as a booster that can turn ordinary magnets into scary-good ones. A good example being the notably strong magnets inside MRI devices. Go poking around under the hood and you might find a few pounds of this nearly unknown metal doing its thing.
Annual production of holmium is estimated to be in the low hundreds of tons with a small portion of that actually being the pure metal (most instead only processed as its oxide).
