Potassium Metal Cube
Potassium Metal Cube
Few elements are as finicky as potassium. Although familiar to everyone, most are unaware that it’s an actual metal and not just something vaguely mineral-sounding thing having to do with nutrition. It reacts violently with oxygen, guaranteeing that it can’t stay looking metallic for more than literally a few seconds in open air before turning into an earthy compound. On top of that, it also happens to be about as soft as butter. With those characteristics it’s little wonder that a “cube” of potassium is not a realistic project.
And yet.. well… see for yourself. Here’s the real deal. A fully formed and oxide-free cube of potassium has made it from drawing board to real life product. The same knowhow used to produce the lithium and sodium cubes works here just as well with the only notable difference being that it is even more delicate. Greater concessions to small imperfections along the edges are to be expected as the minutest movement is sufficient to reshape it. Gone, too, is the blinding glint of the pure metal as evident when it is allowed to mold itself to the glass walls. Even with those caveats, without question, this beautiful bluish-purple cube is in every way a more desirable format compared to the first prototypes consisting of a glass cube into which formless potassium was injected.
Be literally one of the very first - and the very few - in the world to have an actual object made out of this metal!
Please note this cube will not fit in any of our current display cases.
