Aluminum is a metal that polishes to a highly reflective surface very easily and, considering how cheap it is, should make this one of the most affordable offerings on this page. But it isn’t. The reason is that aluminum is also quite soft and requires great care when grinding and polishing to prevent damage. Unfortunately, it is only very late in the process, after the lapping machine has completed its cycle, that the individual cubes can be examined for damage. The smallest of variables, if not simply bad luck, is enough to bump the cube enough that a tiny error - one that would go unnoticed in the regular seven dollar cubes - sticks out to mar an otherwise perfect specimen.
