Apart from gold, cesium is the only other clearly yellow metallic element on the periodic table (although the color is more brassy than gold's deep yellow). Its relatively high cost is due to there being few commercial deposits, difficulty in extraction and a lack of major applications. Despite this, or rather because of this, the metal is in high demand by collectors who like both the looks and the ability to melt the metal by simply holding it in their hands to watch it flow from one end of the ampule to the next.
