Rhenium 50mm Lucite Cube
Rhenium 50mm Lucite Cube
Rhenium is the least well known member of the precious metals group and with an estimated 0.7 parts per billion in the earth's crust a leading candidate for rarest air-stable metal. Despite its obscure status, demand for rhenium easily outpaces the meager annual supply. Most of that rhenium is headed for use in the aerospace industry where it's turned into alloys for use in fighter jet engines and rocket nozzles. It's one of the few substances that can tolerate their hot plasma exhaust without immediately disintegrating.
This is the ultimate tribute to this, the least well-known of the precious metals. Tipping the scales at 30 grams, this piece of 99.99% pure rhenium was commissioned as a showpiece. Starting out as a handful of metal powder, art was born when it was placed in the crucible of a vacuum arc furnace - the only machine that can melt this refractory metal with its near unattainable 3200 °C melting point.
A true heirloom, this beautiful cube with its stunning, shiny rhenium core is guaranteed to hold a very special place in a lucky owner's collection!
