Oganesson marks only the second time that an element has been named after a living person. In this case, leading nuclear physicist Yuri Oganessian whose work was key in developing the work necessary to discovering these superheavy transuranics. The announcement for confirmation of the existence of this atom took place in 2002; skipping several lighter atoms in the series which had yet to be confirmed. Ironically, oganesson's decay chain proved the existence of several of these indirectly but the data was deemed insufficient for what would have otherwise been a home run.
