Gold 50mm Lucite Cube
Gold 50mm Lucite Cube
If you want the gold piece in your collection to call more attention unto itself than gold already does you really can't do any better than going with a genuine ancient coin. No two alike, these ancient coins are very nearly pure gold and all date to the late 5th and 6th centuries.
This turbulent period in history coincides with the fall of the Roman empire and that of the nascent Byzantine state. It was a time of constant wars as many different tribes jockeyed to establish the new world order that would usher in the Dark Ages. Fueling those wars - as always throughout other periods in history - was gold. Gold to outfit armies, gold to bribe them go bother someone else, gold to build the victors palaces and monuments.
Many of these gold coins, known as the solidus, were lost in battlefields or scurried away in earthen pots which would only be retrieved many centuries later thanks to the invention of the metal detector. Today they count in the tens of thousands and are eagerly sought after by collectors. In each of these cubes you will find one such remnant of the ancient world which will feature the name and effigy of an emperor who lived and died nearly 15 centuries ago; each the very definition of a historical heirloom!
