Darmstadt is a lovely little German city full of culture and neatly kept parks. It also happens to be epicenter of hi-tech research whose alumni end up heading teams at CERN, NASA and similar. Much of the theoretical as well as applied research in the elements that have been discovered in the last twenty years has taken place at, or been in collaboration with, the various labs and other facilities here.

Little wonder then that the single, evanescent atom of element 110 that was discovered in this city in 1994 would eventually be rewarded with naming honors. That poor atom came into being and exploded into a shower of subatomic particles in less than ten seconds!
