Cadmium
Cadmium
“Cray havoc and let slip the dogs of war!” With this famous quote from Julius Caesar, Shakespeare sets the stage for one of history’s greatest military showdowns. And within the protective confines of this dome this sample of cadmium reveals otherworldly geometry that seems to capture a freeze frame of an epic struggle.
Sharp, shard-like features intersect at shallow angles to create blades. Interfering in the progress of their growth then come secondary bulbous structures. In some cases the softness of the curves obstructs the path and elsewhere they merely glom on. At the point the crystal’s growth was stopped a jumble of formations attests to an overall stalemate with clear winners of each form in disparate regions.
The microscopic war that birthed its creation is here housed in a beautiful glass dome providing a collector the opportunity to more closely study the tussle that took place. One can hardly imagine a more supreme example of the individuality of this humble metal which is typically offered in bars, rods and other similar industrial forms.
Please note that your dome may come with loose crystals not affixed to the base.
