Fluorine gas

from $26.00

Fluorine is among the most viciously corrosive elements known to man. It is unique in that it can attack glass which is famous for, among other things, being one of the least reactive of materials. When you see a commercial sign with a frosted logo etched in glass you're seeing the handiwork of a stencil upon whose openings was unleashed fluorine.

This, naturally, presents a problem for those who want to obtain this gas for a collection. Fluorine normally is carried in specially treated steel flasks - which is not exactly ideal for showing off. So how does one get fluorine to behave itself and not attack its glassy enclosure? Well, it has been found that diluted down in two parts out of three with nitrogen that the beast is tamed. Sure, you're getting only getting your fluorine "watered down" but at least it's the genuine article on this exceptionally difficult and expensive element to score.

Fluorine has a yellow-green hue but is only evident when you have a lot of it concentrated in one place. Due however to the small size of the glass containers the gas inside appears colorless.

In its elemental form, fluorine is extremely difficult to find for the average consumer because it’s such a wildly dangerous substance. Their small size here limits the danger to a bad fart if one were to break (which is a good thing considering the alternative!) but just in case should be treated with care regardless.
