Zinc 50mm Lucite Cube

Zinc is a cheap metal. Mundane to the point of contempt. It's the metal you think of when visualizing the roofs of a shantytown. It's the humble innards just under the surface of a penny because otherwise a penny that is copper to the core would cost a pretty penny. It mostly gets a bad rap because it weathers poorly so that it tarnishes quickly in air and often corrodes completely.

They say you can't make a purse from a sow's ear but we beg to differ! This sample of zinc we purposely set out to make as unconventional as possible. This unique texture is created by allowing molten zinc to fall in cold water where it instantly freezes solid to retain the drop-like shapes it had while still molten. They are then simply gathered into a tight grouping and left to be immobilized by the curing acrylic resin that will become an acrylic block. Needless to say, as they're handmade no two will be exactly alike but all share the same basic layout that sets them apart from all the other elements in your collection.
