Zinc 50mm Lucite Cube

Zinc is a cheap metal. Way to try to sell product but it's true. It's the metal you think of when visualizing the roofs of a shantytown. It's the humble innards just under the surface of a penny because otherwise a penny that is copper to the core would cost a pretty penny. It mostly gets a bad rap because it weathers poorly so that it tarnishes quickly in air and often corrodes completely.

They say you can't make a purse from a sow's ear but we beg to differ! This sample of zinc we purposely set out to make as unconventional as possible. First we cast a piece about 20mm per side then rough sanded it leaving pits and imperfections along the way. Finally, on the resin casting side the piece was put under intense pressure and heat to give it a blistered, tortured look. And there it is, a pure zinc metal cuboid in the middle of a beautiful acrylic block.
