Niels Bohr was one of the 20th century's most eminent physicists and a close friend and colleague of Einstein. His accolades and contributions to science are much too numerous to list in this brief snippet but suffice to say the honor of being named after an element was unquestionably rightly deserved.

The Russians were the first to synthesize Bohrium atoms back in 1976 but their data was apparently a little too thin on the particulars by the persnickety body of scientists whose judgment is deemed final in these matters. The official title was awarded to a German team who was able to hand in the scribbled equations that won the day a few years later.
