The pale yellow of this gas belies the hard wallop it can deal to all lifeforms. Familiar as the pungence of bleach, chlorine is so viciously reactive that it was once straight up used as a chemical weapon. Even when watered down the reddened eyes of someone coming out of a pool hint at the irritant power of this atom; a nuisance to humans this diluted but still lethal to microbial life so a convenient tradeoff.

Two walls of glass separate the dangerous gas in this presentation dome but it’s a bit of overkill. Given the modest amount, breaking the glass is likely to make you shed tears more from the loss of this expensive specimen than due its chemical effect!
